Small Bites of Accommodation Advice - Paying Rent

Paying Rent

Some things to take note about paying your rent:

  1. Rent is usually paid weekly, fortnightly or monthly.

  2. Pay your rent using bank transfer if possible so that you have a record of your rent payments.
    • If you are paying by cash, make sure you get a receipt of your payment.
    • Your receipt should be clearly labeled with what the payment is for.
    • Eg. “Rent for week starting on 3/4/2013”

  3. When and how you pay rent depends on the agreement you have with your real estate agent / landlord.
    • Make sure you read the contract or ask the real estate agent / landlord.

  4. You MUST pay your rent even if you are in dispute with your real estate agent / landlord.
    • The RTA will look into this detail when you submit a dispute claim.
